Web Design Agencies In Iowa

Listed

Since 2019, Iowa has taxed custom software in the same manner as prewritten software, but it also created an exemption for certain sales to commercial enterprises, so a for-profit business and a nonprofit may read the same invoice differently. Six agencies follow. They run from a Cedar Rapids firm in business since 1998 to a monthly hand-coded service you can cancel by email.

Web design agencies in Des Moines

Juicebox

Juicebox calls itself a digital and branding agency serving clients nationwide, with work for the Blanton Museum of Art, the City of Tualatin, Cape Cod Community College and Texas A&M’s College of Architecture. It also lists an Omaha number. Public bodies and colleges will see the most relevant samples here. Ask how it handles accessibility testing and procurement paperwork.

Farmboy

Farmboy describes WordPress development, SEO, branding and campaigns for home services, builders, senior living and similar clients. It reports results against KPIs and works with stakeholder groups. A builder or senior living community can ask for a sample from its own field, and whether the marketing retainer is required once the site is live.

Web design agencies in Cedar Rapids

Creative Canvas

Creative Canvas says it is Iowa-based, serves Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Coralville and Iowa City, and also has a Vail, Colorado office. It builds WordPress sites for small businesses, lists a package at $2,500, and teaches WordPress through online courses and boot camps. If you plan to run your own site, ask what training the package includes.

Cedar Studios

Cedar Studios says it hand-codes sites instead of using page builders, handles hosting and maintenance, and takes design requests by email on a monthly contract you can cancel. It says a landing page can be designed in as little as one to two business days after sign-up. Because the site is not on a common CMS, ask what you would receive if you cancel, and whether another developer could work on it.

Informatics

Informatics says it has been in business in the Midwest since 1998. It covers websites, ecommerce, mobile apps, 4K and drone video, and managed AWS hosting, and it cites a 2026 Best of the Corridor award. It offers free Google Business Profile and AI search audits. Ask for pricing on the build separately from hosting, since AWS plans vary.

An Iowa-born agency with a distributed team

Dotcom Design

Dotcom Design says it was born in Iowa City and that its team is now distributed globally, with clients across the U.S. Josh Krueger started it after working at a marketing agency in 2015. It publishes client figures such as calls per month, and it says its packages range from simple to high end. Ask where your project team is located and which package those figures came from.

How Iowa taxes software, and an exemption to check

The Iowa Department of Revenue’s guide to specified digital products, software and related services says that beginning January 1, 2019, prewritten software is taxed whether delivered physically or electronically, and that “custom software sold in either physical or electronic form is taxed in the same manner as prewritten computer software.” The guide also describes an exemption under Iowa Code section 423.3(104) for certain sales to commercial enterprises, a defined term that lists for-profit businesses and some other groups. It separately discusses web hosting, saying that hosting in its traditional sense is not an otherwise enumerated service when provided alone.

Web design itself is not named in the passages we read, so whether your project counts as custom software is a question for the Department or your accountant. A nonprofit should ask especially, because the commercial enterprise definition may not cover it.

The Iowa Secretary of State’s business search can confirm the legal name on a contract.

Invoice tax lines and hand-coding in Iowa

Should my invoice show tax?

It depends on what you are buying and who you are. Ask the agency whether it applies Iowa tax to your project and whether it needs an exemption certificate from you. Don’t assume a local firm has already sorted this out.

Is hand-coded better than WordPress?

It is a trade-off. Cedar Studios argues for hand-coding on speed, while Creative Canvas and Farmboy build in WordPress, which other developers can pick up later. Choose by how often you will edit and who you want to depend on.

Who to start with in Iowa

Museums, cities and colleges can begin with Juicebox. Home service firms and builders can talk to Farmboy. If you want to learn to run your own WordPress site, try Creative Canvas; if you never want to touch it, try Cedar Studios. Companies that need apps, video or cloud hosting from one vendor can call Informatics. Dotcom Design suits a business that wants brand strategy first and does not need local meetings.

We read these sites in November 2026, and the results and awards above are the companies’ own statements. This page does not rank them.
